A poor man's going green on the cheap

My survival Dome project and subsequent conversion to solar power worked out so great, I decided to convert my worksheds to a combination of solar and wind power. I intend to be able to light and supply power to my machine shop throughout the year while staying off the grid.

In order to build my own wind turbine, I had to visit Ebay to do some careful bidding to get components that I needed. By being patient I was able to purchase all the parts for under $150. I used old pipe saved from the old uhf TV antenna days to build the support tower. The plumbing parts cost about $25.

The following photos show the completed wind turbine and the control system:

The turbine supplies .1 to 3.0 amps to keep
the 12volt 85amphour deep-cycle marine battery charged.

The following photos show the support tower components including a cradle to lower the tower for maintenance.

These Photos show the components and control system of the installation within the sheds:

Showing the input to the controller - output to battery
and to the load light for when battery is fully charged.

Showing the output from battery to the 700/1400 watt inverter.

Showing the output from the inverter going to the machineshop shed.

Showing the powerstrip supplying power to the shop West wall.

Showing East wall powerstrip and additional load light for when the wind
blows too hard the light will supply an additional 3/4 amp load.

I will be adding a 45 watt solar panel to this system and installing a double throw switch controlling switching from wind to solar when wind isn't available.
Neat & Cheap !!
